II Montesierra International Chess Open

The player from Club Shahmat Sanlúcar Elías Oñate was proclaimed winner of the II Montesierra Chess Open. The International Federation master Francisco Javier Cruz Ravina and the cuban Ernesto Pérez Griñán tied in second place.

This second edition, held on Saturday 14th September at our School, was a very equally matched Open which was decided in the last game. As a novelty we also created a parallel junior tournament for under 12´s, and the winner was Julio López from Alcalá de Guadaira, second our Altillo pupil Alberto Escobar who is only 7, and in third place Raúl Marqúez from Rota.

The tournaments were played according to the Swiss system of seven rounds for the Open and six for the junior with 8 minutes 3 seconds for each chess player and game, from 10.00am to 2.00pm.

Montesierra Jerez “La estrella del jamón” was the sponsor of this important event, which rewarded the winners with excellent selections of iberian products and also raffled a few among all the participants. Prizes were also awarded by AJEDUCA “Chess and Education” for the junior tournament

It was a fantastic chess experience with more than 100 players, and a social, educational and sports success
