WELCOME FROM THE INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE COORDINATOR

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to this new school year and to introduce myself to you as Baccalaureate Coordinator. I face this new stage with great enthusiasm and with the conviction and peace of mind of having the best team of teachers to support me.

I encourage you to enjoy this brief but intense stage with your children, so important for them, in which they will acquire the decisive training to successfully face their university future. In order to achieve this, we believe that continuous communication between teachers and parents is crucial, with the aim of instilling in our pupils the need for continuous, serious and rigorous work throughout two years.

It gives us great pleasure each year to present the International Baccalaureate students for the Diploma Programme examinations in May, a project for which we work so hard and with so much enthusiasm.

INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE (IB) DIPLOMA PROGRAMME IN ENGLISH

At El Altillo International School we offer a complete experience from the age of 12, for people who wish to study for an International Baccalaureate.

IB Middle Years Programme – MYP (12-16 years)

The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) is an educational framework for young people aged 12 to 16 that provides a holistic approach to learning. It promotes the development of the complete student, developing intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills. It focuses on eight subject groups including language and literature, individuals and societies, science, mathematics, the arts, physical education and health, design and language acquisition.

The MYP encourages students to create connections between subjects and the real world, preparing them for an international education and fostering global mindedness and critical thinking.

IB-DP Diploma (from 16 to 18 years old)

The International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB-DP) is a two-year educational programme for 16-18 year olds. It prepares students for success at university and in life beyond the educational environment by fostering intellectual curiosity, cultural awareness and global understanding. The curriculum is composed of six subject groups, including literature, foreign languages, social sciences, experimental sciences, mathematics and the arts.

In addition, students must complete three core components: the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge (ToK) and Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS), which promote critical thinking, personal enquiry and community engagement.

IB® learner profile

The profile of an International Baccalaureate (IB) student is that of an engaged, inquisitive and reflective learner who seeks to understand the world and his or her place in it. They are characterised by a global mindset and empathy for different cultures and perspectives. These students are critical and creative, able to tackle complex problems in innovative ways, value knowledge and a life of continuous learning, displaying a strong work ethic and self-discipline. In addition, IB students are effective communicators in more than one language, collaborative and open to challenge, preparing them to contribute positively in a global society.

EQUIVALENCE WITH THE BRITISH SYSTEM

The International Baccalaureate (IB) is widely recognised and valued within the British education system. The most direct equivalence is that the IB Diploma is considered comparable to A-Levels in the UK, students who complete the IB Diploma with high scores can meet the entry requirements for British universities, similar to those who complete A-Levels.

UNIVERSITY PREPARATION

Our International Baccalaureate in Jerez enables our students to be prepared to meet any higher academic challenge, with a particular focus on language learning.

University Career Guidance

We offer a University Career Guidance programme to guide our students on their pathway to higher education. This personalised service helps students identify their academic and professional aspirations, assisting them in selecting universities, preparing applications and searching for scholarships.

EXAMINATIONS AND QUALIFICATIONS

The official International Baccalaureate qualification also allows students to continue on to higher education at Spanish universities.

Validation for access to Spanish universities

Students with the IB Diploma can have their degree homologated through UNED, which will enable them to study at any Spanish university. Once this homologation has been confirmed, they can take the University Entrance Examination (EVAU) to improve their admission grade, if they wish.
